PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF PSYCHOLOGY 

This module outlines the world of psychology in order to understand the scientific underpinnings of psychology as a discipline, its philosophical origins, development and limitations.

PERSONALITY & INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES

This is a fundamental core module of the course which introduces key concepts in the field of Individual Differences, the module support students to develop a broad and critical understanding of intelligence and how personality and other individual differences influence various aspects of human behaviour.

SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

This is a fundamental core module of the course which focuses on the key areas as well as advanced concepts and theories in Social Psychology, including social cognition and person perception, attitudes and attitude change, social identity, prejudice, and human aggression. The module helps students to analyse and discuss classic and contemporary studies, particularly in relation to ethical principles.

DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

This module introduces students to key concepts and approaches in Developmental Psychology. The module promotes students’ understanding and critical analysis of key theories of Developmental Psychology including life stage theories, cognitive development, moral development and gender development theories

COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY

This module focuses on key concepts and theories in Cognitive Psychology and aims to promote students’ knowledge and critical analysis of key areas of Cognitive Psychology including attention, perception, memory, language and thinking.

BIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY

This module provides an overview of key and advanced concepts and approaches in Biological Psychology. It promotes students’ advanced understanding of the role of the brain and nervous system in psychological processes including language, memory, emotion, stress, psychopathology and sensory processes.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS

This course focuses on the key skills needed to conduct quantitative-based psychological research, such as the execution and reporting of experiments, the understanding and interpretation of statistical tests, and the use of statistical packages such as SPSS or R.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS

This module introduces qualitative research knowledge and skills to psychology students and explains why and how qualitative research is carried out in psychology. A sample of current qualitative methodologies and examples of how qualitative methods may be applied in psychological settings are provided.

DISSERTATION PROJECT

In this module, students complete an empirical study, the information of which is then communicated in the form of a written report which includes: an introduction, methodology, description of data collection and analysis, and discussion.
